How Protocols Work
Health OS protocols are N-of-1 experiments where you are both the researcher and the subject. Instead of relying on population-level averages, you test what specifically works for you.
Protocol Structure
Data collection without changes. Usually 7-14 days. Establishes your "normal" baseline.
Applying the change (supplement, sleep schedule, exercises). Usually 14-28 days.
Recovery period between phases (optional). Allows effects to dissipate.
Metrics and Evaluation
Each protocol tracks primary metrics (main outcome) and secondary metrics (additional context). Data is collected automatically from connected sources (Oura, RescueTime) and manually through widgets.
Evaluation Method: compare_phase_means
The primary method compares average metric values in baseline and intervention phases. If the difference exceeds the specified threshold and enough data points are collected, the protocol is considered successful.
Protocol Categories
Difficulty Levels
Minimal changes to your routine. Good for getting started.
Requires regular journaling or habit changes.
Significant lifestyle changes. Requires high discipline.
Safety
Each protocol has a safety level and stop conditions. If you notice worsening of any metric, the protocol should be stopped. Health OS is not a medical device.
