Calculated as total_sleep / time_in_bed × 100. Gold standard in sleep medicine (Buysse 2014). 85%+ is good, 90%+ is excellent. Chronically below 80% is a diagnostic criterion for insomnia.

How to Improve

  • Don't lie in bed awake — get up after 20 minutes
  • Use bed only for sleep
  • Sleep restriction therapy
